ABOUT

Johnalynn Holland (American b. Nashville, TN) received her BFA in Electronic Arts from The Atlanta College of Art and attended the Howard University Graduate Film and Television program. At Howard, she studied screenwriting and cinematography under Haile Gerima and she was selected as a Screenwriting Fellow for the ABC/Disney New Talent Development Screenwriting Program. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Taller Portabelo Norte Art Colony in Portabelo, Panama and a Rhode Island Writers Colony resident. She is a 2023-2024 Baldwin for The Arts Literature Fellow.

After a 14-year career in film and television post production, Johnalynn pivoted  to literature and illustration. Since then, The New York Times bestseller Finish the Fight featured an illustration of Mary Church Terrell and The Guardian named her illustrations of Covid health care workers as their 2020 favorites. As a playwright, her work was featured in The Classical Theater of Harlem’s “Future Classics” series and The Kennedy Center’s “Page to the Stage” program.

When she’s not working on a middle grade novel and children’s book, she’s hanging out with her pit boxer, Taco, and patiently awaiting an Ivy Park gift box.
